Georgi Cherkin has performed in many prestigious concert halls, such as the Auditorio hall in Rome, Musikhalle in Hamburg, Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels...
He started playing piano at the age of six and the following year he enrolled at the Liubomir Pipkov National Music School in Sofia, where he spent 12 years as a student of Antonina Boneva. In 1996, he was admitted at the Pancho Vladiguerov State Music Academy in Sofia in the class of Prof. Atanas Kurtev. A year later, he was also admitted at the prestigious Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he was trained by one of the most renowned music professors in Italy, Sergio Perticaroli, graduating cum laude. He has performed in many prestigious concert halls, such as the Auditorio hall in Rome, Musikhalle in Hamburg, Convention Center in Okinava, Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, to name a few. During the past few years, he has been awarded numerous prizes for popularizing the culture and art in Bulgaria, including the Crystal Lire, the Golden Century, the Golden Muse, and the Golden Quill among others. He has also won top prizes at the following international competitions – Pancho Vladiguerov in 2003, Premio Sassari (Italy) in 1999, and Young Musical Talents in Sofia, 1994. His repertoire includes numerous concertos for piano and orchestra, some of which he has performed as soloist of the Sofia Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio, Classic FM M-Tel Orchestra, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (Ankara), and Santa Cecilia Orchestra under the batons of Emil Tabakov, Milen Nachev, Georgi Dimitrov, Stanislav Ushev, Yordan Dafov, Horia Andresku, Ovidiu Balan, and Migel Grassa–Mora. His concert schedule included a set of recitals in Rome, Paris, Berlin, Prague, Warsaw and Bratislava. The 2006-2007 season began with a special concert in the Royal Castle in Oslo, where he performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 as soloist of the Classic FM M-Tel Orchestra under the high patronage of His Majesty the King of Norway. With the same orchestra he performed Rachmaninov’s No. 2 and 3 Piano Concertos as well as both of Liszt’s Concertos for a Christmas Gala concert in Bulgaria Hall. Several months later, he played Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto and Schumann’s and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concertos with the Sofia Philharmonic. During the season 2007-2008 Mr. Cherkin performed for the Gala opening concert of the prestigious Europalia festival in Brussels, where he played Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra with the Bucurest Philharmonic Orchestra in the world-famous Palais des Beaux Arts. In 2008 Georgi Cherkin performed with Classic FM M-Tel Orchestra Second Piano Concerto by Camille Saint Saens, which he prepared for only two weeks. In the beginning of 2009 he was chosen by Bulgarian Ministry of Culture to take part in the festival Days of Bulgarian culture in Russia. On this occasion he played Piano Concerto No. 3 by P. Vladiguerov as soloist of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. In the same concert season Cherkin performed with the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra in Ukraine.
