Pioneer Youth Philharmonic Orchestra



The “Pioneer Youth Philharmonic Orchestra” was founded in 1952 by the great Bulgarian conductor professor Vladi Simeonov. The Philharmonic Orchestra has a very long and rich history. In the years before 1989, the ensemble had numerous concerts in many different countries all over the world, including Germany, The United Kingdom, France, Italy, The United States of America, Mexico, Brazil, etc.

After a rehearsal in 1979, the orchestra won the recognition of the great American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, who wrote “This is not a Pioneer Orchestra, this is the highest of civilization”.

In its new history, the ensemble remains very active. In 2009, under the baton of maestro Boris Spasov, the orchestra took part in the International Festival of Youth Orchestras in France. Since 2010 the principal conductor of the “Pioneer Youth Philharmonic Orchestra” has been Lyubomir Denev Jr. He has conducted plenty of concerts with classical and contemporary music in Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey, Greece and Serbia. The orchestra consists of around 80 musicians between 15 and 22 years old, and each of them plays with big passion, love and devotion to the music. The ensemble, founded by the professor  Vladi Simeonov, is one of the first youth orchestras in the world. The “Pioneer Youth Philharmonic Orchestra” is supported by the foundation “Professor Vladi Simeonov”, whose director is Dr. Alexander Peshev. In 2016 the orchestra took part in one of the most important festivals for youth orchestras in the world – Young Euro Classic, Berlin.
