At the age of six, Liya was already performing with various orchestras and at the age of eight she was awarded with Mozart Medal and rating "The youngest artist of UNESCO".
Highlights amoung her recent and forthcoming engagements are a tour with DeFilharmonie under Phillipe Hereweghe, Sinfonia Varsovia under Krzysztof Penderecki, performances with the Brussels Philarmonic and Jian Wang in the Double concerto of Brahms, Philharmonie Luxembourg under Emmanuel Krivine, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne under Jesús-López-Cobos, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra under Augustin Dumay, Orchestre Royal de Liege under Christian Arming with whom she recorded the first violin concerto and Introduction and Rondo Capricioso by Saint-Saëns, which was part of a CD music Box including all his compositions for violin and cello . The recording was released in 2013 under Outhere Music's label Zig Zar Territoires.
In the last season Liya also did her chamber music debut in Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
Liya has won several prizes at International Competitions including Tibor Varga in Sion, Louis Spohr in Weimar, Deutsche Instrumenten Music Fond Competition of the "Deutsche Stiftung Music Leben" and others.
She appeared as a chamber musician at some of Europe's most distinguished festivals, including Rheingau Music Festival, Martha Argerich's festival in Lugano , Athens music festival, Festival of Radio France in Montpellier, Festival de Menton, Festival de Pâques in Aix en Provence, Musica Mundi and Classissimo Festival in Belgium.
In March 2011, Liya was invited to take part in a chamber music concert series Martha Argerich and Friends in Athens, playing together with Martha Argerich, Renaud Capuçon, Yuri Bashmet and Misha Maisky. Among her collaborators were as well Ivry Gitlis, Augustin Dumay, James Ehnes, Nicholas Angelich, Frank Braley, Yuja Wang, Gérard Caussé, Antoine Tamestit, Gary Hoffman, Jian Wang, Gautier Capuçon and others.
Since giving her debut in 2003 in Laeiszhalle-Musikhalle in Hamburg, she was invited to perform in some of the world's finest concert halls in Europe, including Accademia di Santa Cecillia in Rome, UNESCO hall in Paris, Dvorak Hall in Prague, Auditorium Rainier III in Monaco, BOZAR hall in Brussels and others. In the following years Liya appeared with Monte Carlo Philarmonic Orchestra, Weimar Staatskapelle, Norrdeutsche Philarmonie, Orchestra National de Montpellier and many others.
In 2001 Liya entered the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock" in the violin class of Prof. Petru Munteanu as a exceptional young talent.
In September 2010, she continued her studies at the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapell, under the direction of Augustin Dumay.
At the moment Liya is a student of Antje Weithaas in the Hochschule für Music "Hans Eisler".
Liya Petrova plays a unique Italian violin Matteo Goffriller 1690, made available to her by Queen Elizabeth Music Chapell.
