The interest to these performances is roused by the presence of the both Bulgarian eminent tenors – Emil Ivanov and Kaludi Kaludov. Each of them will sing one star part, changing their roles in the evenings of 10, 13 and 14 July. During the fourth performance (on 17 July) each one will sing in the both parts. For the first time the director Nina Naydenova has been invited to the Varna stage. Among her last achievements are the premiere of Macbeth by Verdi on the stage of Stara Zagora, defined as a brilliant one and the production of Turandot staged by the Burgas Opera.
Kaludi Kaludov is among the most talented Bulgarian tenors, established his repertoire featuring solo parts of operas by Mozart, Verdi, Bizet, Puccini, Donizetti Leoncavallo, Mascagni, as well as Bulgarian contemporary works. Kaludi Kaludov’s international career includes his appearances on the most prestigious opera stages all over the world such as Vienna Staatsoper, La Scala in Milan and many others.
For his 30-year artistic activity he has played in more than 60 roles all around the world. He has sung with Placido Domingo, Samuel Ramey, Renato Bruson, Zancanaro, Mirella Freni, Gena Dimitrova, Nikolay Gyaurov a.o. He has also worked together with the great conductors and directors of our time. The talent of this brilliant Bulgarian singer having an angel voice and exciting stage presence have won the recognition and high acclaim of the critics. He was conferred the title Honorary Citizen of Varna.
The name of Bulgarian tenor Kaludi Kaludov has been for a long time a member of cast of the great European opera theaters. The Austrian magazine Festspiele rated the name of the Bulgarian tenor Emil Ivanov among the names of the best world singers. He has sung on the stages Arena di Verona, Terme di Caracalla, Macerata, Vienna Staatsoper, Metropolitan Opera, La Scala in Milan, etc. His repertoire includes the leading parts from operas by Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Dvorak … Emil Ivanov has been on the Varna stage, taking part in several premieres, concerts and other performances.
The parts of Tonio and Silvio (Pagliacci) and Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana) will be presented by some of the most talented Bulgarian baritones – Niko Isakov and Petar Danailov, and also by the young soloist of the Opera Philharmonic Society – Varna, Svilen Nikolov. Both the guest soloists: Mariana Popova (Nedda in Pagliacci); Daniela Dyakova and Irina Dolzheko (Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana) and the soloists from the Varna Opera: Linka Stoyanova (Nedda in Pagliacci), Boyka Vasileva and Vyara Zhelezova (Lola in Cavalleria rusticana) have been cast in the women’s parts.
The opera Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo is staged for the third time in the history of the Varna Opera. The previous productions date back to 1948 and 1976.
The opera Cavalleria rusticana is presented for the fifth time. The previous premieres were staged in 1948, 1951, 1970 and 1976.
