Dimosthenis Fotiadis

Dimosthenis Fotiadis studied viola, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and orchestra conducting at Thessaloniki State Conservatory, Greece. He continued his studies at Hochschule für Musik Münster, Germany and at the department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, Greece, graduating with "excellent".

He is a member of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the ANIMUS Quartet. He also teaches viola and chamber music. He has successfully appeared in recitals and chamber music concerts in Greece and abroad. Moreover, he has recorded for radio and television. He has also been a member of the crisis committees in the artistic struggles of the Ministry of Education for many years.

He has conducted the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Balkan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the NOMOS String Orchestra, the Pro Musica String Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Thessaloniki State Conservatory, and various musical ensembles in first performances of new composers’ works as well.

Dimosthenis Fotiadis systematically devotes a large part of his artistic activity to young musicians. He has been a pioneer in creating ensembles of young musicians and has been successful in performing as a conductor with youth orchestras of Northern Greece. Over the past twenty years, he has performed more than one hundred and twenty concerts as a conductor of youth orchestras with astonishing reviews.

He has been the main conductor of the Youth Orchestra of Thessaloniki State Conservatory since 2003.
