The Varna Summer International Music Festival kicked off here on Saturday. The artistic director of the event, Mario Hossen, said at the opening that for 100 years now, music has been connecting Varna with the world, as he referred to the festival celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026.
Varna Mayor Blagomir also offered congratulations on the occasion of the festival’s centenary. He emphasized that celebrating a cultural event that has spanned a century is a privilege and an honour that few have the chance to experience. The Mayor expressed his gratitude to those who have worked for the festival over the years. He pointed out that the programme put together by the organizers is incredible, featuring world-renowned artists and orchestras.
Kathrin Deventer, Secretary General of the European Festivals Association (EFA), extended her greetings to the residents of Varna and the organizers of Varna Summer. She noted that the festival has been a valued member of the EFA for many years and commended the Municipality of Varna for the support it provides in organizing the event every year. Deventer emphasized that many people work hard to organize and run Varna Summer, so that the city’s residents and visitors can enjoy wonderful musical performances.
The director of the Varna Theatre and Music Production Centre, Daniela Dimova, said that it is rare for one to attend the 100th anniversary of a cultural festival. She recalled that Varna Summer has gone through various eras but has survived despite everything, maintaining its quality.
