International Symposium ”French modernism”

Following the 3 successful editions of Varna Summer International Symposium, this year eminent musicologists will present their scientific researches on French Modernism and reception of French Music in Vienna and Berlin in the beginning of the 20th century.

Leading musicologists from France, Austria, Germany and Bulgaria will present and discuss their scientific lectures under the guidance of Prof. Hartmut Krones (Music University Vienna). The topics are focused on connections of French composers with the “Zweite Wiener Schule” – Schönberg, Berg, Webern and influence of French music culture on some Bulgarian Composers. Co-moderator is Lilia Goleminova – granddaughter of the famous Bulgarian composer Marin Goleminov.

The Symposium also includes 3 concerts on 4,5 and 6 July evenings with 21 masterpieces based on Schönbergs programs for the concert series „Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen“. In addition chamber works by Bulgarian composers Lyubomir Pipkov and Marin Goleminov will be performed by young musicians in the frame of lectures and discussions.
