This concert is realized in partnership with the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Young Network TransEurope (YNT) and Siemens Arts Program and is part of YNT’s conference Reimagining Europe: Hopeful Futures for the next Century.

Mozart, Vienna and Berlin are the pivotal elements of this concert that celebrates the 270th anniversary of the great Austrian composer’s birth. Mozart effortlessly created the finest examples of Sinfonia concertante – a genre that flourished in Paris during the18th-century, adding a new touch of invention, innovation and brilliance. To finalize this all Mozart program, German conductor and leading cultural manager Stephan Frucht has selected the famous “Little G minor Symphony”—the first of only two minor-key symphonies among Mozart’s 41 (the second being the celebrated No. 40, also in g minor). Mozart was only 17 when he composed it, yet one can hear a mature master who created in the finest manner his rich impressions, knowledge and mastery.

The Vienna Chamber Orchestra marks the 80th anniversary since its founding in 1946 in one of the music capitals of the world. The ensemble continues to uphold its prestige, enchanting audiences across Austria, Europe, and the USA, performing with leading conductors and soloists. It was with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra that Daniel Barenboim once made his debut as a pianist; today, the soloists for this exquisite concert represent the Academy Barenboim founded in 2016. The Academy is a result of another mission-driven project focused on the unifying role of music, he had fulfilled alongside his friend and collaborator Edward Said – the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. The musical academy is named after both of them, though Said (a professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, author, and public intellectual) passed away in 2003. The Barenboim-Said Akademie nurtures talented musicians from the Middle East, North Africa, and the rest of the world, preparing them not only for high musical achievement but also for a life rooted in profound values.
