Robert Schumann – Piano Quintet E flat major Op.44
Antonín Dvorak – Piano Quintet No2 Op. 81
Two of the masterpieces among the piano quintets of Romanticism make this concert a special experience. Robert Schumann composed his op.44 during one of the most prolific and fruitful years of his life and dedicated it to his wife Clara, a brilliant pianist – that is why the role of the piano is quintessential. Antonin Dvorak composed his second piano quintet during his vacation in the picturesque mountains and managed to blend magnificently Czech folkloric with Western European musical traditions. The beautiful, rich, melodic and emotional music of Schumann and Dvorak brings together five musicians with their own successful careers. Ludmil Angelov is one of the defining figures Bulgarian performing art worldwide. Born in Varna, his musical path brought him to the big concert hall all over the world. He shares a longtime music partnership with Mincho Minchev that continues today with his son, Nikolai who is a concertmaster of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra in Germany, also a fine chamber musician with a vast repertoire.
Joel Woepke and Florian Glocker are also members of this esteemed orchestra; Glocker is the principal violist of Wuppertal Orchestra; Woepke studied cello in Düsseldorf and Munich and was a finalist at the ‘Rubinstein’ competition with his trio. The Lady in this quintet is the violinist Iva Miletic; born in Belgrade, she had studies in Vienna and Essen (under Mincho Minchev) and has won numerous awards. United by their love for chamber music, these five musicians guarantee high quality interpretation and a true delight for the audience.
