MARIO HOSSEN is a Austro-Bulgarian concert violinist and conductor considered as one of the leading interpreters and experts of Paganini Music. His program repertoire is rich and stylistically diverse, including works from Italian and German baroque to contemporary classical music, tango and jazz. Together with music by leading last centuries composers, he performs and promotes the works of the great Bulgarian composers Pancho Vladigerov, Marin Goleminov and Peter Christoskov.
As a soloist of international acclaim, Mario Hossen has performed with renowned orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, the Bruckner Orchestra, I Solisti Veneti, Wiener Akademie, Sofia Philharmonic. As a Soloist and Conductor, he regularly leads the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
Mario received his education in Sofia, Vienna and Paris. He had his debut as a soloist with orchestra at the age of eight. Among his teachers are Darina Dankova, Michael Frischenschlager (student of Yehudi Menuhin), Gerard Poulet (student of Henrik Szeryng).
Mario Hosen has released 22 CD albums for the Italian record label Dynamic and for Doron Music Switzerland. His discography includes integrals with the Paganini quartets, the violin sonatas of Beethoven, Bach and Handel, the violin and orchestra concertos of Paganini, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Brahms, as well as world premiere recordings of unreleased works by Paganini, Mozart, Tartini, Rolla and Mercadante. Among the composers who dedicated works to him are Rainer Bischof, Tomas Marco, Francois-Pierre Descamps, Walter Baer, Alessandro Solbiati and Georgi Arnaoudov wrote violin concertos and pieces for him. He is founder of the Paganini Ensemble Vienna and artistic director of the international summer academy and music festival “Orpheus”, held annually in Vienna.
Editor of the complete works of Paganini for violin and orchestra for one of the oldest music publishing houses in the world “Musikverlag – Doblinger”, Vienna.
Mario Hossen holds many prestigious awards, among them the City of Sofia, Musician of the Year and Classic FM award. He is artist of Thomastik Infeld, Vienna. He performs on G.B. Guadagnini Violin (1749), which is placed at his disposal by the Austrian National Bank.
Mario Hossen is Artistic Director of the oldest Bulgarian Music Festival, the “Varna Summer International Music Festival”(1926).
