Restoring an author’s concert by Pancho Vladigerov from 30 July 1926, performed 100 years ago by the Vladigerov brothers

Project of Pancho Vladigerov House Museum – Sofia

This concert, featuring violinist Slava Atanasova and pianist Konstantsa Dyulgerova, invites audiences into the musical atmosphere of a century ago. The programme recreates a historic concert of works by Pancho Vladigerov, first performed on 30 July 1926 at the Varna Music Celebrations by the Vladigerov brothers. The event is part of the concert cycle In the Style of Vladigerov, launched in 2024 by the State Cultural Institute Pancho Vladigerov House Museum – Sofia to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the patriarch of Bulgarian music.
At the heart of the project lies the revival of Vladigerov’s rich instrumental legacy through the reconstruction of original concert programmes preserved in his archive, drawn from concerts in which he appeared both as composer and performer. Presented “in the style of Vladigerov”, these concerts offer audiences a vivid impression of the cultural and artistic traditions of his time. They also highlight the composer’s distinctive approach to shaping and presenting a concert programme which continues to challenge contemporary performers and ensembles. Vladigerov himself sought to create a compelling experience for his listeners—an experience this concert aspires to recapture.
