Nina Nikolina’s project “Jazz and Traditions” showcases a unique style, reimagining Bulgarian folk songs in a non-traditional way, blending folklore, ethno-jazz, flamenco, and vocal and instrumental improvisations.
The repertoire includes well-known songs, alongside unreleased authentic pieces. Interpreted in contemporary musical genres with jazz, funky, R&B, and electronic dance sounds, the performance features not only folk songs but also pop hits. In a concise format, the performer “translates” myths, legends, and humorous texts from various dialects. *Nina Nikolina Live* is not a conventional concert but a comprehensive narrative about the traditions and customs on Bulgarian land.
“With this project, my goal is to show how unique, national music can be made accessible and relatable to people from different countries and cultures. As an artist, I aim to demonstrate that in music, removing boundaries brings people closer together, helping them discover shared elements in their cultures and fostering better understanding and acceptance.” – Nina Nikolina
The concert is presented as part of the “Intermezzo” programme, a joint initiative between the Varna Summer International Theatre Festival and Varna Summer International Music Festival.
