Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Iván Martín is nowadays recognised by critics and audiences as one of the most brilliant and engaging musicians of his generation.
He regularly collaborates with practically all spanish orchestras, as well as London Phillharmonic Orchestra, Berliner Konzerthausorchester, Wiener Kammerorchester, Ochestre de Paris, Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, “Giuseppe Verdi-Milano” Symphony Orchestra, Praga Virtuosi, Helsinki Philharmonic, Zagreb Philharmonic, Polish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Monterey Symphony (USA), Shenzen Symphony Orchestra, Macao Symphony Orchestra, Sun Symphony Orchestra Hanoi, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic or Santiago de Chile Symphony, with conductors such as Gerd Albrecht, Tabita Berglund, Karel-Mark Chichon, Christoph Eschenbach, Reinhard Goebel, Elias Grandy, Andrew Gurlay, Günter Herbig, Pedro Halffter, Eliahu Inbal, Lü Jia, Vladimir Jurowsky, Christoph König, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Kirill Karabits, Adrian Leaper, Juanjo Mena, John Neschling, Josep Pons, Christophe Rousset, Antoni Ros Marbá, George Pehlivanian, Michael Sanderling, Michael Schønwandt, Clemens Schuldt, Dima Slobodeniouk, Krzysztof Urbański, Kery-Linn Wilson, Antoni Wit or Christian Zacharias.
He has been invited to perform at several Festivals such as “New York International Keyboard Festival” (USA), “Orford International Music Festival” (Canada), “Festival International La Roque d’Anthéron” (France), “Festival International La Folle Journée” (France), “Mozart Box Festival” (Italy), “Festival Internacional de Grandes Pianistas” (Chile), “Festival Internacional Cervantino” (Mexico), “International Music Festival Macao” (China), “Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada” (Spain), “Festival Internacional de Música de Perelada” (Spain), “Schubertiada a Vilabertrán” (Spain) or “Canaries International Music Festival” (Spain), visiting the most prestigious concert halls around the World, such as Berliner Konzerthaus, Berliner Staatsoper, Berliner Philharmonie, Dortmund Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Salle Pleyel (Paris), New York Carnegie Hall or Beijing National Center for Performing Arts.
Engaged with contemporary musical creation, Iván Martín has featured several premieres by composers such as Joan Albert Amargós, Benet Casablancas, Antón García Abril, Cristóbal Halffter, Pilar Jurado, Michael Nyman, Enric Palomar or Ramón Paus. He has recently made his debut as a conductor with several orchestras such as Real Filharmonia de Santiago, Castilla y Leon Symphony, Galicia Symphony, Balearic Symphony, Extremadura Symphony, ADDA Symphony, Spanish National Orchestra, Gran Canaria Philharmonic, Almada Chamber Orchestra or Wiener Kammerorchesteror, and founded “Galdós Ensemble”, a new and versatile orchestral group to perform music from the Baroque and Classic era as well as modern and contemporary ages.
As a chamber musician, Iván Martín has collaborated with some important artists such as Natalia Lomeiko, Yuri Zhislin, Gordan Nicolic, Massimo Spadano, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Asier Polo, Nuria Rial or María José Montiel, on different ensembles and repertories.
He has recorded several programs for radio and television in Spain, France, Italy, Brasil and United States, and his CD publications for Warner Music and Sony Classical dedicated to composers Antonio Soler, Mozart, Schröter and Beethoven have been warmly welcomed by audiences and critics, receiving the best reviews considering them as a “reference” and been nominated for several awards. His most recent album performing chamber music works by Schubert, Brahms and Bruch with Natalia Lomeiko and Yuri Zhislin has received a five-star award by prestigious BBC Magazine. He also has collaborated with composer Joan Valent on a CD published by Deutsche Grammophon.
Iván Martín has been an artist in residence at Miguel Delibes Cultural Centre and Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra and, since the season 2019/20, he is chief conductor of Burgos Symphony Orchestra.
