“Orchestrating Future Together” is the motto and vision of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO). Founded on a unanimous vote of the European Parliament on 8 March, 1976, the EUYO has been Cultural Ambassador for the European Union for 50 years. Its founding Music Director was Claudio Abbado succeeded by Vladimir Ashkenazy. There is a long line of world’s finest musicians that have worked with the orchestra such as Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Mstislav Rostropovich. Many of the Orchestra’s now 4000 alumni have become notable conductors, soloists, teachers, and instrumentalists working with the major orchestras of Europe and throughout the world. A truly global brand, the EUYO has presented their programs in most of the world’s major concert halls and festivals, including the BBC Proms, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein. The young musicians are often invited to perform at high-class diplomatic events. At the moment, Ivan Fischer is the Music Director of EUYO but it is the famous Spanish conductor Gustavo Gimeno who will conduct this unique young orchestra in Varna. Gimeno currently leads two important musical institutions – the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Opera (Teatro Real) in Madrid. He collaborates regularly with singers such as Netrebko, Alagna, Bryn Terfel, Domingo, Damrau.
The soloist of EUYO will be Salzburg-born Julia Hagen with the very best of her repertoire—the young cellist has performed Dvořák’s concerto recently with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, and for her Canadian debut with the Vancouver Philharmonic. Courage and beauty blend in her interpretations, according to the critics. Together with the music of Dvorak and Bruckner, there is a special place for a Bulgarian piece – ‘The Song’ by Pancho Vladigerov. The virtuoso violinist Mario Hossen will present this masterpiece to the audience.
The musical future of Europe come to “Varna music” Festival – come and enjoy this concert. It will help you understand why every year, around 3000 applicants aged 16-26 throughout all 27 EU Member States audition for approximately 120 places aiming to be part of this fabulous ensemble.
The concert is organized with the support of the Embassies of Spain, Germany, and Slovenia in Bulgaria.
