Founded in 1997, Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) was the first youth orchestra from China to perform with the Vienna Boys Choir at the Wiener Musikverein and the Salzburg Mozarteum. So far, MYSO has toured Australia, Singapore and China. All its members (around 100 at the moment) are devoted to the music, aiming to perform to the highest standards. Many have chosen to be musicians and presently are furthering their studies in the US and Europe. They are led by Stephen Lam, one of the last students of Uros Lajovic, Ordner Edwin, and Konrad Leitner at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Lam had been selected by Riccardo Muti to conduct opera productions of his Italian Opera Academy. Besides MYSO, Lam is currently the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Ponte Orchestra and Singers and Ponte London Orchestra. Together with the soloist Jessica Hoi Yan Ching, who had toured in Japan, the United States, Italy, Australia, Germany, France and Portugal, MYSO will present a program with а piece dedicated to 500 years’ anniversary of Macao, as well as Richard Strauss’s oboe concerto and Seventh Symphony by Beethoven.
